PageRank Sculpting Just Got More Interesting

As you may already know, the other week at SMX Matt Cutts (Google web spam team) dropped a bit of a bomb, stating that links with the nofollow attribute (rel=”nofollow”) no longer free up their PageRank to get divided up among the other links on a page.

Traditionally it was thought that if a page had 10 links and 5 had the nofollow attribute, the remaining 5 links would split the extra PageRank “freed” by the 5 nofollowed links.  The basis of PageRank sculpting - nothing new here, right?

So naturally when Matt began talking about nofollow links causing their PageRank to essentially “evaporate,” the SEO world started getting a little crazy.

Cockroaches And Keyword Density - Neither Will Ever Die

Here’s a recent post I made in response to a question regarding keyword density at an internet marketing forum that I’m a member of.  For some reason, keyword density seems to be one of the most persistent SEO myths, and hopefully this post will give you some insight into the reality of the situation.

So here goes . . .

Here’s some examples for us to roll with.

Let’s take a keyword density analyzer at random. Here’s one - http://www.keyworddensity.com/

Now, let’s pick some keywords at random.

Lose weight

Mortgage rates

Find out my credit score

Reverse Phone Lookup

Asian wedding favors

Why Your Pages Aren’t Ranked & Why # of Results Change (Google’s Dirty Secret)

This is actually a two-parter. The first part is why the number of returned results can vary from time to time whenever you do a search in Google, and the second part is why your page is not showing up in a particular keyword search.

Since more of my time and effort are spent on the second half, I’ve titled the subject accordingly. :) Now, let’s jump into part one - why the number of returned results can vary . . . (where the “dirty secret” comes in)

Ever went and searched a keyword and got back a certain number of competing pages, only to go back later and search again and get a completely different number?

Here’s why . . .

Where The Heck Have I Been?!

I tell you - I didn’t even call!  :)  Man, can you believe how long it’s been since I posted an update to this blog?  My apologies!

Here’s some of what I’ve been up to . . .

I’m doing a copywriting and up-sell process for a client I “picked up” (my top-secret pun/hint on who it is lol) after re-doing Stephen’s copy the other month.  Still working on things, but hope to be able to share results/tactics at some point in the near future.

SEO consulting - Yes, I really DO work!  :)  Pretty exciting - One of my clients just did the big $1 million in orders last month, after having a near-ZERO internet presence until I began work on their site in January.  Can you say, “Undercharging?!” ;)

True Marketer Mindset - Adopt This Principle and Prosper

The other day, I happened to shoot a few emails back and forth with someone who’s been having a little trouble seeing real results from her affiliate marketing efforts.  She had a small winner on her hands and wasn’t sure if she should run PPC to it.

Ever found yourself in this situation before?  Dissing a campaign because it isn’t a “grand slam?”

What I shared with her is a trick that I learned long ago - it revolutionized the way that I look at running my business - well, my businesses.  In just a moment I’m going to share this same mindset with you.  Check it out . . .

Specificity Sells - Why “Advertisers” Are So Often Wrong

In the middle of a SEO project at the moment. Not sure if it’s entirely appreciated or not, but when I’m doing SEO, I’m only spending part of my time concerning myself with their rankings - I’m looking at usability, as well as whatever “marketing message” that they’re using.

At the end of the day, SEO isn’t about rankings. If you’re contracting a SEO and he/she says that it is, fire them. SEO isn’t about rankings, it isn’t about traffic . . . it’s about dollars in pockets. So that’s why I think my “total business evaluation” is most likely appreciated. I haven’t lost work because of it yet, at least. :)

In my review of their site’s content, I ran across two big things that stuck out to me, and they revolve around one key theme - SPECIFICITY.

Increasing Conversions Through The Use of Personalization

Today, I’m going to show you a cool little bit of PHP coding that will allow you to personalize your sales letters to your clients, and without affecting the functionality of “cold” traffic that happens to stumble upon the sales page.

Keep in mind, in order for this to work, you need to name the page .php (instead of .html or .htm).  There is also a .htaccess script to parse html as php - of course, it works for Apache, not Windows IIS.

Anyway, let’s get to the meat of it . . . more…

StomperNet Formula Five Review - In Greater Depth…

Ok first, I probably owe you guys a slight apology for the gushing I did in my last post about Formula Five. Sorry guys, I just got REALLY excited!

First, I owe the guys at Stomper for . . . well, basically every SEO client I’ve ever had.  So yeah, you could say I’m already a little in their pocket, but I still do try to be as objective as possible.  It’s just that I watched the first GoingNatural 5.0 video (”Dead Simple”), the 70+ minute “F5 Unleashed” video, and then I was about halfway through the INTRO for Margin Magnifier when I had seen more than enough and KNEW I had to tell others about this course.  Hence the schoolgirl excitement.  :)

Those of you who are familiar with me know I’m not an affiliate whore - I mean I railed against a $1 SEO ebook because of its hype and angled commentary, I got advanced access to Turnkey Mentors, and then told you not to buy it.  Last, those of you on my email list got a link to Jerry West’s blog post about why not to buy Arbitrage Conspiracy, back when that was released.

Ok, so now that you know I’m working in your interest, onto F5 . . .

StomperNet Formula Five - How Andy J. Bribed Me . . .

Well I just checked my email and LO AND BEHOLD, I’ve been sent online access to the entire StomperNet Formula Five system.

Now Ok, I know how this goes . . . It’s a technique called reciprocity.  He gives me thing of large value, and then I feel obliged to return the favor (promote his product).

How I increased a “guru’s” sales letter conversions almost sixfold

Today, I’m going to show you how I took a dating (or “pick-up” - let’s use “attraction”) guru’s sales letter from a .7-1% conversion ratio to almost 5.9%. I’m going to do today’s post in video . . . three videos, matter of fact. :)

Video number one is about establishing who this “guru” is, and the biggest sticking points I found on his original copy - Don’t skip past this one!

In the second and third videos, I’ll show you the copy I wrote for him and explain the thoughts and processes behind it, and explain exactly how I managed to increase his conversions almost sixfold.
